Dog Description

Phoenix

Phoenix Estimated DOB: 22 July 2024 (as of 22nd November Phoenix will be 4 months old) A quick back story on Phoenix – Phoenix and his brothers and sisters were found running around the streets of Orewa, skinny and absolutely starving. Now after being in foster care, Phoenix is at an ideal weight and is safe, healthy and ready for his forever home. Phoenix is an absolute stunner and as beautiful as he is on the outside he is also such a lovely pup on the inside! He is very people focused, so he will need company throughout the day – Being such a velcro dog he would love to be with you all day, everyday and it doesn’t matter where. Phoenix is an active pup who loves to play with his toys, run around the yard and explore new things! But his most favorite thing in the world is belly rubs, pats, cuddles and human attention. Phoenix is confident in new surroundings and with new people. He is in a great routine at home, and since being in foster care has become a very relaxed and happy boy. Phoenix would love someone who has got the time, patience and love to put into him. He is a sweet boy who is very eager to please! Phoenix is naturally a very dominant dog, he was the leader between him and his sister. Due to being slightly toy possessive around other dogs (not humans), we think he would be best in a home as a solo dog, however we wouldn’t rule it out if your dog is submissive and of the opposite sex. Phoenix is fostered with our own dogs – Papillon (small breed) and a Bearded Collie (medium/large breed), he does love them and enjoys playing with them but only when there are no high value toys around. Due to his dominance as well as being quite a strong puppy who is rough with play, he would be best in a home with no small children. Instead a home with no kids or older kids who are 13+ would be best. He can also be very strong willed, so he will need a firm hand and ideally someone who is experienced with large breed dogs. Phoenix will thrive with someone who has the time to focus on him daily, provide good firm leadership and can fully commit to his training needs. Phoenix is fully crate trained – he currently sleeps in a crate at night, he sleeps through the night without waking and has naps in there during the day. We are also working on his toilet training and his socialization, which has been going well. He also knows “sit” and “down”, however Phoenix still has so much more to learn, and I know he cant wait to have a family of his own to show him the big wide world and all the fun things it has to offer him! Being a suspected Shepherd cross, Phoenix is an extremely intelligent dog and this means he will need someone who is willing to give him the right amount of time, exercise and mental stimulation to keep him fulfilled. He is also still very much obsessed with food as well as toys, so, with a strong food and toy drive teaching him tricks has not been hard! Phoenix has had x2 Vaccinations & Microchip. He will have his final vaccination on 20th November, after that he will be fully vaccinated and ready for walks! Phoenix is fostered in Mt Wellington, he is living here with our own pets who are 2 dogs and a cat.
