Dog Description

Alice

Female German Shepherd pup, DOB 8 November 25. Sweet-natured Alice is a beautiful, lean and leggy German Shepherd puppy with paws that are clearly too big for the rest of her body. Her ears are in an awkward in-between stage, sometimes standing, sometimes flopping, often doing their own thing. Her juvenile coat is dense and slightly fuzzy rather than sleek – that comes later. There’s already a hint of the adult dog she’ll become, but right now everything about her looks unfinished and a little goofy.

This lively lass is alert and curious, quick to notice movement and unfamiliar sounds, but, being so young, is still easily distracted. She learns fast, especially when treats and praise are involved, though her focus comes in short bursts due to her young age. Confidence comes and goes – she’ll investigate something new one minute and hesitate the next, checking back with her mum or dad before continuing. As she matures, her focus and attention span will increase significantly.

She’s energetic without being chaotic: bursts of play, chewing, digging, and chasing followed by sudden naps wherever she happens to stop. At this young age, she mouths hands and clothing as her way of communication and seeking a loving touch. Alice is extremely affectionate and is starting to show signs of loyalty by staying close to her people and checking in with them.

Overall, she’s very much a work in progress – intelligent, responsive, a little stubborn, and sensitive to tone and handling. With consistency and structure, she has the foundations to grow into a steady, well-adjusted adult German Shepherd. She is being raised as an “indoor” dog, a pet who is an integral part of her human family.

German Shepherd puppies are intelligent, high-energy, curious and bold, fiercely loyal, and human-bonded from a young age. They are known to be vocal, using whining, grumbling, and barking to express emotions, boredom, or, if not given their way, to sulk dramatically. Alice is no exception!

Alice is good with children but has not met cats yet. With the proper introduction, we foresee no issues. She plays and interacts well with our two large dogs and holds her own with confidence. Alice is at the very beginning of her journey, waiting for someone to become her person. She is inquisitive, emotionally aware, and eager to learn, and she will thrive in a home that offers patience, guidance, and structure.

German Shepherds are not a “set-it-and-forget-it” dog; they thrive on routine and consistent, positive, reward-based training. They learn commands rapidly and are constantly observing their environment. They are, however, often described as “sassy” or strong-willed, meaning they may test boundaries to see who is in charge. Firm, confident guidance and active parenting are required.

Due to their high-energy, protective, and intelligent nature, they are generally best suited to owners with large-dog experience who can dedicate significant time to exercise, train, and socialise their pup. Alice needs someone who understands that German Shepherds are thinking, feeling dogs who need time, attention, training, and a sense of belonging.

A secure fence and a decent-sized garden are necessary to offer Alice an opportunity to flourish. Due to her young age, she cannot be left alone for long periods of time. As she grows and learns, this will become possible. Alice is searching for her special person and a committed, loving home where she can feel safe and chosen, and in return, she will give her family a lifetime of devotion.  Alice is fostered in Millwater, Silverdale.
