Dog Description
Lexi
My name is Lexi and I live in Matamata, Waikato. I’m a Huntaway cross Bearded Collie and my birthday is the 29th January 2018, so I’m coming up to 7 years. I came into care, looking for a new forever home as my mum’s health took a turn for the worse and she doesn’t have much time left. My foster mum says I have a body that resembles a potato, but I’m currently working on my hot girl summer bod. I’m a happy girl who loves basking in the sun and having cuddles with all people big or small. I’m great with children who are great with dogs. My 1-year-old foster brother smothers me every day and tries to share my crate. I walk the township daily, so I’m used to traffic, noise, large crowds and coffee dates with friends. I’m toilet trained, crate trained and house trained. I walk well on the lead but my foster mum says I can improve, so she makes me wear a halti that I’m slowly getting used to. I know “Lexi”, “sit”, “come”, “go to bed”, “off/down” and I’m going to learn a new command, “leave”. I’ll do anything for those duck sticks she hides in her pocket. My foster mum doesn’t let me off the lead to practice my recall because I get distracted around other dogs and have a high drive to chase silly cats away. I’ll be no good in a house with cats and in my past life I had a Labrador and Jack Russel to keep me company, but will still need to be introduced slowly to other dogs as it can get a little intimidating meeting others for the first time at my age. Foster mum also says I have selective hearing of leash, but it’s hard to concentrate when I’m full of beans. I hover around during meal times because I’ve been charging food tax since I was born, but my foster mum doesn’t let me pick off her plate. Just direct me back to my crate if sharing’s not your cup of tea. I love car rides but run from bath time, I’m sure you understand it’s all about balance. I’m a sweet old girl with a strong sense to protect, I’ll love anyone who is kind enough to give me a second chance. Are you the forever home for me?
